I like to ramble when I can
And wander many miles,
Of countryside, a fervent fan
In fact a man of styles.

When I was seven and twenty
Energy kept flowing,
But nearing two and seventy
I struggle to keep going.

Now I seem more prone to tripping
So I take a wooden stick,
And when I sense that I am slipping
I jab it down real quick!

I like all the lunchtime pub stops
Real Ale’s my refuelling
So when we all set off again
It is no longer gruelling.

Walks are planned out on my recces
With compass, map, I scout,
So leading the walk on the day
It usually works out.
